Bus Stop

Standing at a bus stop in the UK can be a chilly and wet experience, especially in Scotland.

The problem is that a lot of rural areas do not have bus stop shelters and you’re standing there open to the elements, hoping that the bus driver is adhering to the timeable on the board.

Some bus stop shelters do offer some shelter from the rain, although some of them are no more than a canopy with three sides open. There are some interesting shelters from around the world, some cosier than others.

Two Bus Stops, a Bus Shelter and a Phonebox, Nasareth

Nasareth, is a hamlet in the Nantlle Valley in Gwynedd, Wales.

This is a strange setup: you sit stand in the shelter and then have to dash to the bus stop when the bus arrives.

Bus Stops and Bus Shelter. Estcourt Road Darlington

Yet another shelter separated from its intended bus stop. I’m guessing that the bus stop was moved further down the road to improve traffic flow.

Fairham Way Bus Stops

The southern-most bus stops along Fairham Way, replacing the stops on Nottingham Road, on the outskirts of Nottingham.

This is what I call a proper bus shelter. Covered on three sides and a roof, wider seats and armrests, with the digital display advising when the bus is due.

Bus Station: Greenock Scotland

I know that technically this is not a simple bus stop shelter, but it is perfect for our Scottish weather. Completely enclosed on all sides and the doors only slide open when a bus stops adjacent them.
