The Tinkerer

Naturally, if you poke around under the bonnet long enough, you’re bound to break a few things. But that’s half the fun! For me, computing isn’t about being perfect; it’s about the joy of tinkering, discovering fantastic open-source software, making mistakes, building/breaking websites and figuring out how to fix them again.

My journey with computers started way back in the early 1980s, when my wife bought me a Sinclair ZX81 computer, which had only 1K of memory. Over the years I upgraded to the BBC B Micro, the BBC Master and then my first PC, an Amstrad Mega PC. It was at that time I decided to tinker with the innards of computers - not a good omen for any hardware I got hold of.

Then I started to take interest in the internet, I tinkered with Blogger, Wordpress, etc. I created a few websites, such as Scotchpotch Magazine and Glasgow Tales. So over the years I moved with the times, messing with PCs, laptops and printers and running a website. Due to family issues, I stopped going online for a while.

Having retired with nothing to do, I decided to pick the subject of vintage buses to photograph, since I live a few miles from the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust. My main camera to date is the Google Pixel 9a with a handle and a remote button. (fancy cameras are not needed for website photos). I also visit other transport museums in the UK.
